Alkegen Widnes Case Study

About the Project

This project was for the essential groundwork for a temporary structure company to build on. The project involved the complete preparation and installation of a 1,500m² reinforced concrete foundation, forming the critical base for the upcoming temporary build.

To prepare the site for construction, JW Civils carried out the following works:

  • Removal of existing concrete slab – carefully demolished and disposed of all existing concrete

  • Excavation to formation levels – ensuring accurate depths and stable ground conditions

  • Installation of geo grid and geo membrane – to stabilise the subgrade and enhance load-bearing performance

  • Placement and compaction of Type 1 MOT – built up to formation level, achieving required compaction and tolerances

Excavation of pad foundations – including placement of steel reinforcement ready for the new concrete pour

The concrete foundation now provides a robust and level base ready for the installation of a temporary warehouse structure.

This project highlights the importance of precision and quality in groundwork, even when much of the work won’t be visible in the final build.
Strong, well-prepared foundations; even for temporary structures, ensure safety, stability, and long-term performance.
